| SOUVENIR SHEETS - THE CHALON ISSUES | |
| | _ | In order to promote the Exhibition and to help with fundraising, we would ask you to subscribe to a series of Cinderella sheets. Although the first of these was sent out in the last Bulletin, there are still sets available.
NEW ZEALAND 2005 was always intended to be the Exhibition which would celebrate the Sesquicentennial of the Chalon or Full Face Queen issue, New Zealand’s first postage stamps which were issued in July 1855.
As an introduction to the Chalon stamps, a series of Cinderella sheets, showing a variety of the major features of the various printings, will be produced. The first of these showed the elements which went into the final design of the stamps. Sheet number two features the London prints by Perkins, Bacon and Co., plus two of the problem stamps, the Dwarf print and the so-called Richardson print on large star watermarked paper. Both varieties are, and have been since their discovery, subjects of much discussion and heated argument.
You can see an illustration of this sheet at Pictures at an Exhibition
The sheets will be produced at regular intervals with the Bulletins and will be limited to 400 sets at $75.00 per set, on a first come, first served basis. Future sheets will feature the early prints, the watermarks used, perforation varieties, retouched and re-entered varieties, flaws, famous covers and so on, building up to a mini library of the background information to the printers, the stamps and their usage.
To order your set of sheets, purchase logo stickers, or to subscribe to the Exhibition Bulletins we ask you to send your details with your cheque or bank draft in NZ Dollars, payable to the North Shore Philatelic Society, to:
The Exhibition Secretary NZ 2005 National Stamp Show PO Box 34-253 Birkenhead North Shore City Auckland 1310.
Alternatively, you can e-mail your order to lenjury@xtra.co.nz who has secure facilities for you to pay by credit card.
